How Smart Elevators Can Leverage Cloud Computing

Smart elevators use the latest smart tech based on cloud computing technology such as the AVIRE HUB. Hosted on the AWS Cloud, it is a reliable and safe platform that keeps lift data and communications safe behind a powerful firewall.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services – servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics and more – over the Internet (“the cloud”). Companies offering these computing services are called cloud providers and typically charge for cloud computing services based on usage rather than a set charge. Cloud computing helps lower the costs of smart elevator tech like emotive elevator displays.

How does cloud computing improve smart elevator performance?

The adoption of cloud computing has grown exponentially but there are several reasons why this way of doing business is so popular:

Cost
Cloud computing eliminates the requirement to purchase hardware and software and set up and run on-site data centres.

Speed
Most cloud computing services are provided as self service and on demand, so even vast amounts of computing resources can be provisioned in minutes giving businesses a great deal of flexibility and take the pressure off capacity planning.

Global scale
The benefits of cloud computing services include the ability to scale elastically. This means delivering the right amount of IT resources – for example, more or less computing power, storage, bandwidth – exactly when it’s needed, and from the right geographic location.

Performance
The biggest cloud computing services run on a worldwide network of secure data centres, which are regularly upgraded to the latest generation of fast and efficient computing hardware.

Reliability
Cloud computing makes backing-up one’s data, disaster recovery and business continuity easier and less expensive. As a safety measure, data can be mirrored at multiple redundant sites on the cloud provider’s network.

Is the AVIRE HUB a secure choice for smart elevators?

There are myths that cloud computing is inherently less secure than traditional approaches. The concern is due largely to the fact that your data is stored on servers and systems you don’t own or control. However, control does not mean security.

At MEMCO by AVIRE, we are committed to providing solutions that provide peace of mind to our customers and we adopt a number of measures to ensure that the cloud platform has market-leading security features.

  • We host the AVIRE HUB in Azure which is also used by many high-profile organisations. Azure provides a very secure environment ensuring that MEMCO and the AVIRE HUB are always up to date with the latest technology and security measures.
  • We use MySQL as the database engine which has unparalleled security and global reach.
  • Unwanted Incoming and outgoing connections are blocked by a secure firewall that is monitored on a daily basis. Only specified connections are allowed through our secure firewall.
  • Protections include username, password and a certificate required for access to the AVIRE HUB.

The AVIRE HUB is connected to our DCP which is our digital communications platform enabling information to be sent and received to and from the AVIRE HUB. It is important to note that this unit is only connected to the internet when it needs to transmit information or when the unit is being set-up and installed. As the unit is not continuously connected to the internet this increases the security of the system.
